I wrote “Sunbeams” during my second semester of college when I began to feel homesick. Home, for me, is the Driftless Region, known for its endless bluffs, forests, and rivers. The song weaves together fragments of old myths and stories and explores a universal, central theme of longing: longing for home, for nature, and for the light. At its core, “Sunbeams” is about reaching for that light and listening to your calling.
